Breed of gundog developed as two types – large (58–62 cm/23–24 in) and small (up to 56 cm/22 in) – in the early 20th century in Westphalia, Germany. The Small Munsterlander has a white coat with a brown head and brown patches and spots on the body. The Large Munsterlander has similar markings in black and white. Both have moderately long, wavy coats, drooping ears, and long tails.
